Among its more relevant attractions, the Botanic Garden "Mar and Murtra" excels, since it is one of the most important in Europe, founded in 1953, where you will found 3.000 different types of flowers and plants in a peerles space. Another important attraction is the Tropical Garden "Pinya de Rosa" which is specialized in tropical plants. A few kilometres of the town there is the sanctuary of the "Vilar" Virgin Mary, where a pilgrimage of much of the population of Blanes takes place, because of the "aplec".
A historic townAt the highest part of the city, we find the "Sant Joan" mountain and the remains of a castle also called "Sant Joan", and a slender tower of the sixth century survives. In the town centre there are smart houses of the eight century and important gothic remains such as the Gothic Fountain, a good example of the Catalan Civil Gothic. Likewise, in the town centre, we find another of the big gothic monuments: the Santa Maria's Church, which used to be the palace of the Viscounts of Cabrera in the 14th century.
A generous cultural and festive calendar
Its shopping centre is dinamic and it makes people of any part of the region shop there. Apart from the craft markets that are hold in summertime, there are the "Feria de Sabores de Catalunya Firatast" (Flavours of Catalunya Fair 'Firafast'), the "Santo Tomás" Fair, the "Nadal" (Christmas) Market and "Expodiver" (a fair for children) in wintertime. During the Town Festival of "Santa Anna" a lot of activities are arranged, the most important ones being the famous International Fireworks Competition (from 21st until 27th of June), "habaneras" (type of music), concerts, parades, correfocs ("fire-runs"), and dance and theater festivals. Blanes offers, moreover, lots of types of entertainment such as a fish auction, hold every afternoon from Monday to Friday at the seaport, the daily market of fruit and vegetables, a clothes market hold every Monday, popular parties, the possibility of practizing every type of water sports and, naturally, numerous premises where enjoy such as discotheques, pubs, bars, etc.To the north of Blanes there are two towns called Tordera and Lloret de Mar; to the northeast there is Lloret de Mar and to the west Tordera, Malgrat de Mar and Palafolls. And to the south we find the Mediterranean sea.
It is also important to mention that Blanes is prepared to welcome visitors of all ages, since it is the first town of the Costa Brava that has recieved the "Family Tourism Destinity Certification" in 2007.
